PLAYTIME will never be the same again for pupils at Tavistock Primary School, after a £4,000 award has transformed their playground into a place of education and adventure. The school won a Nat West Bank Supergrounds award to remodel its school playground. Headteacher Joe Flynn was delighted with both the award and the final product after contractors had finished painting the playground and installing the equipment. Special paints have been used to create a permanent roadway which will help the children, aged between three and 11, learn about road safety. There is also an adventure theme with a volcano erupting with hot lava, a river with crocodiles and wooden boats. The project was set in motion by one of the children's parents, who works in the local Nat West branch, who alerted the school to the scheme run by the bank. PE teacher Simon Beattie then become involved in all the 'ground work' for the application, which they later learned was successful. Mr Flynn said: 'We worked with the children, especially the school council, and took their ideas into account. All the things in the remodelling of the playground is aimed at stimulating their imaginations. 'We are absolutely delighted by this grant as its benefits can be used by the children every single day.' 'We even have parents, hand in hand with the little ones, using the playground before the children start the school day.'
