POLICE urge people to be vigilant following a series of burglaries that have occurred in the West Devon area.

Detectives in Tavistock CID are dealing with nine burglaries to dwellings in the area that have taken place since November, 2018.

In November, officers appealed for information after a spate of burglaries in the Lifton and Lewdown areas of West Devon, including three in one week.

Since then they have continued, with one occurring at Sydenham Damerel on December 30. Police believe the thefts are linked. Officers reported that thieves were entering dwellings by forcing doors at the rear of the properties.

DC Wayne Thielmann said: ‘We are asking for people to be vigilant and to think about how they can protect their property. Get neighbours to look in on the property if you are going away; purchase technology to protect the home; take note of anyone in the area acting suspiciously or anything that is out of the ordinary.

‘The incidents are taking place predominantly in the evenings at unoccupied premises.’

Anyone with information are asked to call Tavistock police on 101.
