OBSCENE images, swear words and graffiti tags were found sprayed across properties in Bere Alston last Thursday (April 23).

The graffiti of all colours was sprayed across the parish hall on Station Road and more than five nearby garage doors in the village.

Brian Lamb, councillor for Bere Ferrers Parish Council, said: ‘It’s rather horrific at a time like this when the community is doing everything it can to help people and those vulnerable, that we get an incident of this nature.

‘The parish hall has been graffitied with obscene images and it’s appalled all of us.

‘We are trying to appeal for witnesses to this horrendous incident to contact the police or let the council know.’

The graffiti was painted over as the Times went to press.

PC Cathy Veale from Tavistock Police Station said: ‘Although crime is down and we have seen lots of positive behaviour I do agree it is very sad that this criminal damage has occurred at all, especially at a time when so many are working so hard to care and support each other during these difficult times.

‘We will be undertaking visibility patrols in this area and would like to hear from anyone who may have any information leading to the identification of the offenders.’
