PLANS to cut fire and rescue services ‘to the bone’ have been met with hostility from the West Devon community, as Tavistock could be directly affected.
Last week it was announced that Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Authority proposed significant changes in order to try and save £8.4-million from its budget.
Six money-saving options were put forward to be considered by the fire and rescue authority tomorrow (June 28). If members agree, then proposals will go forward for a 12-week public consultation, running until September 20, 2019.
Within the six options are the closures of eight fire stations and the scrapping of more than 30 fire engines across the region.
Tavistock currently has two fire engines on call around the clock, which could be reduced to one during the day under one of the options proposed.
But this plan has been labelled as ‘dangerous’ to the residents and visitors of Tavistock.
