CALLINGTON’S Christmas lights were vandalised last Saturday (December 7) — within hours of them being switched on.
The lights were assembled by Callington Town Council ready for the festive switch-on but were later found to have been cut adjacent to the traffic lights at Fore Street.
Town clerk Helen Dowdall said: ‘This is so disappointing, we spent a lot of money on the lights to make the town look bright and festive for it then to be vandalised. We have asked the electrician to deal with this incident.’
A Callington police spokesperson said: ‘This appears to be a deliberate act. It was firstly believed that they were damaged due to the adverse weather but sadly on further investigation the lights have been tampered with.’
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or the town council.
