SEVENTY years ago today (February 25), shortly after the end of the Second World War, a couple from Hatherleigh and Exbourne were married in Okehampton.

George and May?Reynolds, now aged 93 and 94, started married life together in Monkokehampton, with George working in farming and the building trade and May working at Nethercott House, now home to Farms for?City Children, the charity set up by author Michael Morpurgo.

Back then, the home belonged to Captain Bendyshe.

The couple had one son, Michael. He still works in the family business that he and George created many years ago.

The couple are celebrating their platinum anniversary with a quiet day together at home in Okehampton.
