Kelly Swim Squad won more than 50 medals — an excellent performance given that there are only 26 members of the senior squad and 20 members of the development squad. At this championship 30 swimmers from Kelly went to compete. The first target is to get to the finals, from there, swimmers target their time to get a medal.
Samantha Calcutt won gold medals from the 800m F/C to the 50m fly, with her 100m fly time of 64.32 seconds equalling the Devon County record set by Zara Long ten years ago. Samantha is getting stronger now and is still only 16 years old.
Robert Pratt is also young at only 16 years. He has, however, won three gold medals at these championships. He is another Tavistock boy who has the potential to make the England team.
His time of 60 seconds for the 100m backstroke is excellent and his 100m F/C of 54 seconds shows how hard he works on his stroke technique.
Archie Brew, director of swimming and coach to the squad at Kelly said that dedication to training and technique by the squad is getting them there.
