TAVISTOCK Cricket Club on Sunday hosted the celebration of Stuart Munday?s 40 years as a player and official with the club, captained by former Devon all rounder Keith Donohue.
The visitors decided to bat, losing two quick wickets in South African Quasim Adams and former Tavistock captain Steve Larder.
Devon wicket keeper Jez Williams then put on a stand of 74 with ex-Gloucester and Cornish legend Malcolm Dunstan.
Following lunch, Donohue came to the crease and with Williams they put on 80 in 40 minutes. Williams was out for 89 and Donohue 87, the latter caught on the boundary by Downham.
Munday, playing in his own celebration game, was caught first ball off the bowling of Andy Gauler who mopped up the tail taking 5 wickets. The visitors were finally out for 258.
The second half of the game saw Steve Luffman go cheaply. David Manning, following a superb match winning innings of 92 on Saturday, was out to a brilliant catch by Plymstock?s Mike Cherry.
But the day went to Tavistock overseas player Orin Roestorff who made an unbeaten 131 off 130 balls, giving the home club a narrow victory and taking the man of the match award presented by another Tavistock old boy, Jack Davey.
After the game a silver salver was presented to Munday by chairman John Perkin, who along with club president Eric Jarman commented on Munday?s input to the club over the years, especially behind the scenes.
Munday also received an inscribed tankard on behalf of his team presented by Keith Donohue.
President?s wife Enid Jarman presented Munday?s wife, Wendy, with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the club. Munday expressed thanks to all who helped organise the day, especially the ladies led by Jenny Crocker along with Pauline Rich and Sharon Statton, who provided a superb lunch and tea for the many guests and players, plus chairman John Perkin, president Eric Jarman, Paul Vickers, Andy Rich and Mike Crocker who ran the bar.
He also thanked his guests and friends who attended, including man of the match adjudicator Jack Davey and international test umpire David Shepherd, who made the trip from Instow and presented Munday with a sponsorship cheque for £1,000 on behalf of SportsMatch. Shepherd now travels on to Australia where he umpires the series between the host country and Bangladesh.
