KELLY College swimmers produced an outstanding team performance on Saturday to win the final of the division 3 (SW) National Speedo League held at Soundwell in Bristol.

With an electrifying atmosphere the top six teams in the league came head to head in the final. Kelly College, drawn in lane three, were flanked by Taunton Deane A and Barnstaple, of which both teams previously swam in division 1.

With only two teams able to gain promotion the pressure was on. This was Kelly College's first ever involvement in Speedo League and the swimmers were all fired up to prove themselves capable of taking on some of he best teams in the South West.

Team captains Robert Pratt and Samantha Calcutt again produced outstanding swims winning both their individual events. Other individual winners included Rachel Banfield, Joshua Lake, Jack Williams, Saul Rogers, Whitney Bowring, Matthew Henry, Tom Howe, Jonathan Wills, Russel Page-Dove, Peter Freedman.

With 50 races in the event programme it is important to be consistent with placings. Kelly picked up 26 firsts, 13 seconds and seven thirds. The final points tally was Kelly College 252 points, Taunton Deane A 226 points, Barnstaple 212 points, Cardiff B 142 points, Bristol Henleaze 118 points and Neddafan 96 points.

Robin Brew, Kelly College swim coach, was delighted at his team's performance and accredits the success to a continued commitment to excellence: 'We are producing some great youngsters who have tremendous talent. We have all worked really hard and winning the Speedo League was very important to all of us as it shows just how serious we are about swimming at a high level.'
