SINCE ATS wisely decided to stay put Dolvin Road residents have been issued with permits to park in the Abbey Rise park as before and additionally in the Brook Street park, the latter on a temporary basis as the council are considering closing it at night for 'security reasons'.
In the past, my car has been vandalised a number of times at Abbey Rise. Since the council disclaims responsibility for any damage incurred, clearly neither offer is viable at night.
Daytimes are not much better, try finding a space even one reserved for us, when poor St Rumons are delivering or fetching children, or on a Saturday when shoppers are out in force.
When I moved here ten years ago we could park outside our homes at any time. We had to compete for places with commuters and shoppers, but as I recall there were many more spaces then; two have been removed from outside my own property.
Now those remaining are far too few to accommodate our parking needs.
When/if the road came, we were to be given alternative parking, the council's published plan included moving the school to a safer environment and using the present site for a car park.
I think it would be fair to say that none of us who were here then could possibly have envisaged the car parking problems that were to come.
We are fast approaching the 21st century; is it really realistic to attempt to solve traffic problems of these proportions by putting them through a 19th century road?
Is it fitting for society to treat a law-abiding, tax-paying section of its community in such a way.
