HOSPISCARE, the Exeter-based charity which has helped hundreds of people with life threatening diseases in the Okehampton area, celebrated it's 21st anniversary this year with a record year financially.

Hospiscare has been offering support to patients and their families in Okehampton for the last eleven years.

Almost a third of Hospiscare's income last year came from donations, with money from shops, groups and a lottery also showing a considerable increase. The charity ended the financial year with a healthy surplus of £481,326.

Eve MacFarlane, communications officer for Hospiscare said: 'People really took our cause to heart after reading about our financial difficulties. The majority of this money has been ploughed back into our reserves.

'It has also enabled us to cautiously start the process of expanding our services.

'One of our key aims is to provide a seven-day nurse visiting service and a 24-hour support service across the whole of Exeter, mid and east Devon.'

Hospiscare nurses and doctors last year provided specialist care to 1,630

patients across Exeter, mid and east Devon area, as well as vital support to friends and family.
