BROTHER and sister Callum and Elspeth MacKellar from Gunnislake have successfully unicycled 141 miles across Lakeland and Pennine Hills in memory of their grandfather and to support the work of the British Heart Foundation.

The siblings were among a group of eight unicyclists who rode from Whitehaven to Sunderland raising in the region of £8,000 between them all. They were supported en-route by their father Peter on his bicycle.

Their grandfather Campbell MacKellar, who was the principal of Westmoor Vets in Tavistock, died of a coronary at the age of 53 in 1977.

Peter MacKellar said he was privileged to take part and it was particularly poignant because he was now the same age as his father when he died.

'It was hard work for the youngsters but guts and determination got them through. I would like to express thanks to everyone who supported them.'

Mr MacKellar followed in the veterinary footsteps of his father and is now the owner of Town Farm Vets in Tavistock, Horrabridge and Yelverton.

He and his family took a well earned rest in Edinburgh before returning to Gunnislake on Sunday. Callum is a student at Callington Community College and Elspeth is about to start university. They are both members of the Calstock Unicycle Club.
