LIGHT winds and a mild day resulted in excellent scoring from the 130 players in the better ball stableford at Okehampton Golf Club on Saturday.
Both divisions were close. Nick Atkinson and Stuart Wilson edged out Bill and Dawn Phillott on the last 9, and Steve Blackmur and Paul Reynolds could only be separated from Neil Penfold and Roger Slack by their last 6.

Division 2 (33 pairs): 1, S Blackmur and P Reynolds 47 points (last 6); 2, N Penfold and R Slack 47 points; 3, B Willcocks and J Morey 45 points.
l A good time was had by all when the lady members attended their captain, Sylvia Caunter?s, tea on Sunday.
A 16-hole greensome competition or a nine-hole stableford was played, followed by an enjoyable meal.
Sylvia presented prizes for the day?s competitions and the awards for all competitions played during the previous year.
The day?s competitions were won by: Greensomes, 1, Doris Jewel and Penny Deakin 33 points; 2, Mary Keir and Janet Hatch 32 points; 3, Pam Jarman and Jean Adams. Dawn Phillott won the nine-hole competition.
The previous Wednesday, 23 ladies played a medal competition with the following results:-
Silver division: 1, Marcia Holwill (12) net 70; 2, Pam Jarman (15) net 73 (last 9); 3, Amanda Clifford (16) net 73 (last 9).
Bronze division: 1, Eileen Piper (32) net 73; 2, Sylvia Caunter (22) net 73; 3, Maureen Willcocks(30) net 78 (last nine).
l The Okehampton juniors entertained Hele Park for their first friendly match of the season on Sunday.
Some early season rustiness combined with excellent play from Hele Park resulted in a three points to one victory for the visitors.
Okehampton?s sole point was contributed by Steven Hill and Jonny Rattenbury. Edwin Kendal and Lawrence Waldren, playing their first competitive match for the club, lost by one hole after excellent play by Hele Park on the last two holes.
