A RECORD number of children attended a hugely successful summer coaching camp run by Tavistock Hockey Club in conjunction with Mount Kelly last week.

Over the three-day camp, 128 children aged from six to 14 from schools in West Devon took part in the camp, benefiting from top class coaching by former international hockey player Justin King.

Justin played for South Africa in both the hockey World Cup and Commonwealth Games, gaining more than 100 international caps and has played in the national League in England for a number of clubs, including Oxted, Hampstead and Westminster and Old Loughtonians.

Justin was assisted by a number of coaches from Tavistock Hockey Club on each of the days.

Club chairman Phil Honey said: ‘This was another fantastic success in promoting the sport of hockey to the youngsters in the community.

‘The numbers attending these events are growing each time, which is a testament to the quality of the organisation and the hard work put in by a dedicated group of people.’
