MORE than a thousand young people from across Devon braved freezing conditions to shine at last month's Devon Winter School Games, part of the national Sainsbury's School Games, held at the University of Exeter at St Luke's Science and Sports College.
West Devon youngsters were represented along with those from East Devon, St Luke's, Plymouth, Dartmoor and Torbay.
The event saw nine different sports including football, hockey, rugby, netball and many taster sessions including stunt cycling, fencing, tennis and golf.
London Olympic 2012 Team GB sprinter Daniel Talbot was there to inspire the youngsters.
The event also offered County Sport Partnership Active Devon the opportunity to engage nearly 100 young volunteers who officiated, coached and provided event support on the day.
The St Peter's School, Tavistock team won the cup in the girls' tag rugby while their A team were runners-up in the volleyball. Okehampton also won bronze in the football.
