TAVISTOCK ABC’s Aiden Whiting, fought in a boxing contest against John Jo Meade of Torbay ABC narrowly losing on a majority points decision.

Aiden, age 12, was in action again on the October 29 in a bout against Nile Thomas of Barton Hill Club in Bristol. In a thrilling contest against a taller and heavier opponent Aiden gave a good account of himself. In three exciting rounds he gave little away and forced the pace throughout the contest. He was caught several times when closing his opponent and in the clinches. These lapses resulted in a points decision against him.

There was more good news for Tavistock ABC — up and coming boxer Chantel Whiting, aged 14, attended the England cluster squad training session in Cheltenham last weekend.

Tony Fennell, the Tavistock ABC coach, said: ‘Everyone was impressed by her ability and capacity to take on board the techniques covered at the session.’
