Plymouth Argyle XI 5
IT may not have been the Plymouth Argyle first team but the young side managed by former Pilgrims' favourite Kevin Hodges showed their class at Langsford Park on Friday night by giving a weary looking home side a wake-up call for the new season.
Against a Lambs team that was without the services of some of their first team regulars the Plymouth side opened the scoring in the 39th minute when striker Tyler Harvey side-footed the ball home from 12 yards.
The away team doubled their lead in the 43th minute - when a shot by River Allen was deflected by Isaac Vassell off the bar into the net.
Just a minute later, not to be denied a place on the scoresheet, it was Allen himself who netted, assisted by some fine work by right back Colin Watson — to make it 3-0 to the visitors at half-time.
Further goals by Solomon Wheatley in the 70 minute and a second by Vassell in the 75th minute completed the scoring for Argyle.
Derek Pethick, a spokesman for Tavistock AFC, said: 'We were not up to full strength, with three or four of our first team players missing. However, fair play to the young Argyle side who looked much sharper on the night.'
Tavistock AFC are playing away to Dorset side Gillingham on Saturday (August 11) in the first extra preliminary round of the FA Cup. Kick-off at 3pm.
If there is a reply it will be played at Langsford Park on Wednesday, August 15 at 7.30pm. However if there is no reply that night will see Tavistock take on Bovey Tracey in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League premier, kick-off 7.30pm.
