Runners from Tavistock Athletic Club competed in three races in the county this month.

At the Sourton Scramble, a 10.6km multi-terrain race, 16-year old James Best was first TAC to the finish, winning the U21 age category in a time of 44minutes, 45seconds, in third place overall and just a minute behind the race leader.

Jo Meek beat her course personal best to lead the female runners home in 46.03, finishing 6th overall, while Harrison Baker, another 16 year old, was second U21 in a fast 49.31. Jon Meek and Richard Best both won their age categories in 51.12 and 53.06 respectively and Peter Bazley was third M55 in 55.55.

The following day in the Bideford 10-miler Tony Shearer, Ann Woodhouse and John Windermer all ran a seasons' best time for the distance, John gaining a silver award for his age/time, while Tony won gold and Ann a bronze.

The previous weekend, Lesley Cowie had run the same distance in The Great South at Portsmouth and had finished in 1.38.38 to gain a bronze award in a seasons' best time. First TAC to finish was Wally Lake, coming second in his age in a diamond award time, with Paul Marshall just seconds behind, second in age and winning a gold award. Andy and Sheila Houghton also gained diamond awards, Andy finishing third in age and Sheila first in her category. Jackie Ralph gained a gold award but also finished third in her age. In her first race for the club Christine Le Flem came second in her age group but also won a diamond award for her age/time – an excellent result.

In Plymouth, seven club members were among the 1,131 finishers in the Plymouth 10k. Allan Herdman won his M55 age category in a diamond award time of 41.47. Amy Kitely gained a bronze award, finishing 45.36, while Roger Hewitt earned gold in 47.04 and second M60. Daryl Beeby came in at 49.34, followed by Kerry Pearce in 53.54, Lindsay Hobbs 58.02 and Sarah Dorrell in 66.40.
