THREE swimmers from Tavistock Swimming Club recently competed in the ASA South West Region Youth Championships, which took place at Millfield School, Street.

James Anderson was competing in the event for the first time and produced a good swim in the 400m freestyle which was seven seconds inside his entry time to achieve an 18th position.

Matt Edwards competed in three events in the 17 and over age group, producing good swims in all his events and achieving ninth place in the 400m freestyle, fourth place in the 1,500m freestyle and sixth place in the 200m freestyle 17 and over age group final.

Kieran Rookes produced a good swim in the 50m breaststroke to reach the 16 years age group final and a final fifth position with a personal best time. He also swam in the 100m breaststroke to earn himself ninth place.

James Lake, head coach, said: 'Fantastic weekend, even though the guys were a little preoccupied with the pressure of exams, we were even missing some swimmers.

'We concentrated on technical work to really advance the swimmers. I'm really proud of them — they did really well and showed what Tavistock can do.'
