TAVISTOCK Wheelers were determined to built on their impressive debut performance last week when six of their riders finished in the top 20 of this regional event.
The team was greatly changed from the previous race, with Robin Brew, Chris Mabey and Ben Richardson joining forces with Josh Bullock and Will Johnson.
The Wheelers aimed to set a fast pace throughout the five lap race to try to reduce the size of the peloton and avoid dangerous bunching in a mass sprint finish at the end of the 40 mile race.
All the team took turns at the front to control the pace and execute their plan.
On the final lap, Robin Brew really turned the screw by upping the pace to spread the pack back along the old A30. Josh Bullock took advantage of his team mates' sacrifices and he out-sprinted a rider from Bristol to take a superb first place on the podium. This is the Tavistock Wheelers first race success, at regional level, since joining the British Cycling Federation earlier this year.
Okehampton's Chris Knott repeated his feat of last week to secure another top 10 finish.
In addition, 16 year-old Will Johnson attacked from the start and was able to win the first intermediate sprint on lap two. This earned him a cash prize which was doubled by the club chairman, Geoff Whitlow who was so pleased by this success.
