TAVISTOCK Athletic Club's athlete of the month award has been presented to two athletes, Lachlan Fulton and Bob Chapman.

Junior member Lachlan and senior Bob are both county cross-country champions, having won their races at Exeter recently.

This was 11-year old Lachlan's first county championship and he was racing in the U13 boys category, against boys who were well over a year older than himself so his win is a truly remarkable achievement from such a young athlete.

Lachlan has been in TAC a relatively short time, but clearly has already made his mark.

His coach Carrie Lawson said: 'Lachlan is a very talented runner with a great attitude to training.'

Bob Chapman won the Masters 65 age category, in a time which saw him beating not just those from his own age group but all 60+ year-olds as well!

Bob has run all his life, competing for Essex as a schoolboy on both track and cross country. In fact, the junior male record he set on the track for the 1500m at Chelmsford back in the1960s still stands to-day. Later he was selected to run for the Royal Navy and was also a medalist in the World Veterans over 5k on the track. So Bob is a very experienced and hard-working competitor, proving that age is no limit to achieving excellence.
