THE annual Tavy7 road race took place on Sunday in blustery but sunny conditions – on a perfect Dartmoor autumnal day. The 2018 Tavy7 proved as popular as ever, 32 years since first running the event.

The race sold out a couple of weeks ago with entries reaching the 600 entry race limit.

Despite the strong winds Tavistock Run Project runner Jordan Andrews took the race by the scruff of the neck and got away to an early lead. He won in 39 minutes 10 seconds with Thomas Brogden coming home in second place and another TRP runner, Edward Smart, finishing in third place.

The ladies’ race was won by Elizabeth Dyson from Haldon Hill Runners with Jeanette Johnson from Launceston Road Runners second and TRP local runner Rachel Malthouse was third.

In the team categories the two local clubs split the prizes with TRP taking the men’s race and Tavistock Athletic Club winning the ladies’ event.

Race organiser Martin Exley-Deane said: ‘Yet again the iconic Tavy7 road race has proved to be hugely popular and a huge success, not only with runners locally of all abilities, but it now has many fans travelling from long distances to take part.

‘I’d like to thank Tavistock Lions in particular for their help and our sponsors Mansbridge Balment and Hansford Bell who also helped marshal on the day.’
