Tavistock Colts v Tiverton Colts
A SOLID start from the Tavistock Colts saw a comfortable win against Tiverton Colts in a friendly on Saturday at Sandy Park.
This was a warm up for the start of the season, as the core of the Colts team last played a competitive match in the county final back in April.
It therefore took some time to get the legs and bodies working again, so it was no surprise to see them go down to a well worked try from Tiverton within five minutes of the start.
Having had no possession for the first ten minutes of the game, once Tavistock earned the ball, they started to look after it and Joe Burbage scored in the corner from some good pick and go moves by the pack.
Toby Teague then broke through to score, which was quickly followed by a break away try from Ben Maciver Redwood, running the length of the pitch and dipping his shoulder to pass the Tiverton full back.
Tavistock were confidently breaking through the Tiverton line now, with Archie Allen showing no signs of the summer break and playing to his usual high standard.
When Tavistock weren’t in possession, they only committed a few players to the breakdown and this allowed Jack Easton to marshal the backs into a solid defence.
Further tries from Zac Gorton, Jude White, James Paxman and Jack Smyly all point towards an encouraging start to the season, despite the majority of the team only being in their first year of Colts.
Special mention should go to Edward Nettleship for a great intercepted pass on the halfway line, which allowed him to score a well deserved try.
Next week sees the arrival of Newton Abbot for the first round of the Devon Fishermans Cup.
Also, many thanks to Lisa Hair and her team for the excellent post match food.
