NORTH TAWTON 39
NORTH Tawton got their new season off to a winning start on Saturday with a club friendly against Crediton seconds.
The sides played two half hour sessions plus 20 minutes to finish with a regular change of players all keen to get some game time before the league starts in earnest.
Tries from Will Lethbridge, Kev Dennis, Conner Maiths, Jordan Corntwaithe and Matt Baker and two from Luke Dennis ensured that the away side won every session and always looked like the team in charge. That took nothing away from Crediton seconds who played the game in the spirit of a friendly. After the close season that North Tawton have had with losing their captain from the team due to a nasty accident it did everybody good to have a run out.
Club spokesman Chris Phare said: ‘Craig Dennis’s boots and leadership on the field will be impossible to replace. He was the leader of the team, a turn-to player, but if the glimpses of this run out start to shine then hopefully North Tawton could be in for a good season.
‘It won’t be easy plenty of travelling to the depths of Cornwall but the Tawts I am sure are up for it.The biggest achievement by a North Tawton player this week was Craig Dennis standing up from his wheelchair for the first time since his fall. I am sure you will agree that gets him man of the match.’
