Sidmouth and Ottery 2

Okehampton 3

OKEHAMPTON continued their good hockey form as they ran out comfortable winners in Sidmouth.

Never having to get out of first gear the visitors seemed relaxed and content to soak up anything the home side threw at them.

The counter attack was always Oke's best chance of a goal and they took the lead after Josh Speak and Sam Whalley combined and the latter crossed for Leon Oxenham, who deflected the ball goal-wards and in a scrabble the ball was turned into the goal by a defender's stick, although Oxenham claimed it.

Whalley was at the heart of everything the away side did, with great distribution and an attacking presence he deflected a Speak cross just wide with a lovely effort.

The second goal soon followed when Whalley crossed only to see the goalkeeper stand on the ball and get in a tangle; captain Parsons jumped straight in and pushed the loose ball into an empty net.

Parsons then set up Jack Watson whose shoot was well saved by the goalie just before half time.

The second half saw the hosts try to force their way back but keeper Andy Harvey was able to deal with any threats they created. Luke Liversidge, Will Cooper and Jonny Aylen defended superbly and were protected well by James Rogers, Joff Stephens and Andy Strong.

It was a tackle from Aylen that the third goal came from; he stood his ground and won a free hit which he took quickly to find Watson, who ran at his defender and then found Whalley whose first time cross found Oxenham at the spot and his thumping finish gave the goalkeeper no chance.

With five minutes to go the home side scored twice but it was too little too late and the scoreline did not reflect the visitors' dominance.
