Lamerton 3

Millbridge reserves 1

DESPITE playing against near gale force winds in the first half Lamerton took control of the game from early on and scored after eight minutes.

Some good approach play down the left wing and a well executed cross to the back post from Chris Wearing gave Blair Vanstone an effort on goal, Vanstone bundled the ball past the Millbridge keeper and into the net.

Both sides struggle in the conditions to create any meaningful openings the game fizzled out and Lamerton went in a goal up at half time.

The hosts should have gone two up five minutes into the second half after the Millbridge Keeper spilled the ball from a cross which fell to Simon Kellys feet, but Kellys shot from six yards out hit the post and went out for a goal kick.

Lamerton did extend lead a few minutes later when  a searching ball by Alan Doidge from the halfway line found its way to Phil Wearing who tapped the ball in from six yards out.

On the hour mark Lamerton scored a third when James Steer played the ball to an unmarked Phil Wearing who from 12 yards out neatly clipped the ball past the Millbridge keeper.

Millbridge did get a goal back in the 85th minute but it was no more than a consolation for the visitor as Lamerton eased into the next round of the Devon Cup.
