Carlsberg South West Peninsula premier league
Godolphin 2
Tavistock AFC 0
THE Lambs run of defeats continues, going down to top half of the table Godolphin. A depleted side due to injuries and non availability conceded a goal in each half making it 14 defeats in a row.
The teams were equally matched in the opening quarter with both sides probing for an opening without a real threat on either goal. Then in the 31st minute a throw in on the left found Phil Lawry, who chested the ball down, turn and found his fellow striker Josh Fearon, who hit a magnificent volley from 20 yards which took a deflection and sailed into the net to give the home side the lead.
Back came the Lambs but once again their approach play was good but in the final third there was no cutting edge. They did make the home keeper make a fine save from a 25 yard free kick but the home team went in at the half time leading by a single goal.
The Lambs started well in the second period and were unlucky in the 48th minute when from a free kick Dan Follett saw his header crash against the cross bar, drop down in front of goal, but a home defender was quickest to react and he hooked the ball clear.
The home team carried the more likely threat as they began to take control, and with 15 minutes to go they doubled their lead with a bizarre goal, when Aaron Dilley's angled shot from 20 yards hit the cross bar, deflected onto the far post, rolled along the goal line and crept inside the near post into the net.
The Lambs continued to press forward but once again could not find that cutting edge to open up the home defence.
Thing are beginning to look bleak for the Lambs and they really need to pick some points in the next few games and over the Easter programme of fixtures.
• Tavistock AFC have no fixture this Saturday but Tavistock Reserves are home to St Teath in the East Cornwall premier, kick-off 2.30pm.
