THE Okehampton Smallbore Rifle Club entered two teams in The Kynock Shield competition — a 'Devon versus Cornwall' competition for teams of six prone rifle shooters.

The first three rounds are in knockout format and are for each county to find their best team to go through to the final of Devon v Cornwall.

In round one, OSC entered two teams.

The A team of Richard Miles, Laurence Bennie, Di Johnson, John Chiverton, Paul Batten and Martin Elliott qualified for round two.

The B team of Ivan Trickey, Chris Short, Amanda Elliott, Bernard Rendle, Stuart Bennie and Grahem Spier also won their first round and as luck would have it the two teams found themselves drawn against each other.

Okehampton B put up a fine effort to score 591, but were beaten by just four points by the A team who scored 595.

Okehampton A then went onto beat Teign Valley Rifles in an exciting shoot out by just one point to earn their place in the final, which takes place in March.

n OSC's Sharon Bartlett had a wonderful day when shooting in the Cornish Air Rifle and Air Pistol Championships at St Austell.

Sharon, who took up shooting after being inspired by the 2012 Olympics, competed in both the air rifle and air pistol target competitions at St Austell. She shot a personal best in winning the ladies' 10 metre air rifle competition and another to win the ladies' 10 metre air pistol competition.

Sharon also won the open class B competitions for both disciplines.

Sharon said: 'It was a totally amazing day. I was really thrilled and it had been a fabulous shoot.'
