THE last South West Cyclo-cross league race of the season was held at Symondsbury Estate in Bridport, Dorset this weekend.
Twelve junior Dartmoor Velo riders took part in proper cyclocross weather of increasingly continuous wind and rain throughout the day.
The under 8s kickedg off with a short but hilly lap. Seb Weatherill kept up his good form to come second in his age category.
The corners and hills muddied up for the U10/12 race, as riders showed some good bike handling skills with plenty of tight cornering and overtaking required.
Recently joined Dartmoor Velo member Aoiffe Scawn came second in the U10 girls while Alex Pearcy was third in the U10s’ boys. Lara Dix enjoyed the undulating course to come second in the U12s girls.
The weather had truly arrived for the U14/16s who had a longer course extending into a neighbouring field, which included a long uphill drag and a muddy, short sharp descent and corner. A fierce battle at the front saw Dartmoor Velo’s Leon Dawes take second in the U16s and James Pearcy third.
Dartmoor Velo said well done to all its riders who took part in the event - Abe Reid, Noah Breslin, Joe Dix, Ewan Dix, Henry Fletcher and Nathan Dowding and to coach Gary Andrews who was third in his age category. The riders thanked their coach Geoff Whitlow.
