DARTMOOR Radio Sailing Club played host on Sunday to the South West District Model Yacht Association’s first winter meeting.

There were a total of 18 entries, from both the DRSC and from West Cornwall, Sedge-moor, Woodspring ( Bristol), Bideford and Newquay. Sixteen races in all were sailed in conditions which were far from ideal.

The line-up included several of the best skippers in the country. The best DRSC skipper had to work hard to be placed fourth overall.

The weather was windy with a cold northerly wind which gusted up to gale force at times during the rain squalls. The boats were sailed using the number two rigs, but even so many were severely over-pressed during the squalls.

All of the top six skippers were awarded prizes.

RESULTS: 1, Gavin Watson, West Cornwall, 21 points; 2, Barry Chisam, West Cornwall, 33pts; 3, Richard Aucott, Sedgemoor,  35pts; 4, Dave Kent, Dartmoor RSC, 48pts; 5, Bob Connor, Woodspring, 50pts; 6, John White, Bideford, 68pts.
