YELVERTON captain David Ackford made his sixth score of 50 or more this season in the three-wicket win over Ivybridge 2nd XI.

Opener Ackford made 52 not out as Yelverton chased down 143 to win and got there with more than seven overs to spare.

Along the way Ackford went past 600 league runs for the season at an average of 77.38.

There was a brief wobble on 70 when Rob Grove (30), Geoff Brain and Matt Smale all got out.

Nispathan Saravanane (2-35) dismissed two of them.

Ackford and Harry Nanckivell (20) put on 52 to end the game as a contest.

Ivybridge’s all-out tally of 142 was pinned on knocks from Jimmy Haffenden (33), Alfie Lewis-Frost (38) and Martin Key (29). The rest didn’t make 30 between them!

Michael Marais (4-18 off 9) had a bowling purple patch for Yelverton he took three wickets in seven balls as the Bridge subsided from 85 for three to 99 for seven. Matt Smale took the fourth.

Yelverton, heading for a third-place finish, conclude the season at home to Plymstock 2nd XI this Saturday. Can Ackford go all the way to a century? He has got into the 90s three times this summer without going all the way.
