CONSERVATIVE A had to dig deep against a spirited display from West Devon D in the Tavistock Snooker League as they crept ever slowly towards the league top spot finishing line.
Their cause was not served well by Folley or Bell who produced lacklustre displays to allow West Devon D's Murton and Shrimpton to take full advantage and give their side a shock two frame lead.
Order was soon restored though as the safe hands of Carruthers and Longden took control of their frames against Hooper and Shoulders to pull the Con As level with a couple of dominant performances including a pair of 20 plus breaks.
The stage was then set for two 'old stagers' to decide the match as Con A's Evans and West Devon's Decieco squared up to each other. Evans (21) soon took charge as he continued his rich vein of form to dictate play and comfortably take the frame for the Con As and win the match for this team by 3-2.
It showed how far some of the teams in the league have improved this season with West Devon D proving they can 'mix it' with the best.
In the match between West Devon B and Conservative C the first frame saw Con C's Jago (senior) take an early lead against Roger Rich but a couple of snookers by Rich allowed him to slowly claw his way back and secure the win on the black. Frame two saw Con C's Neale against West Devon veteran Bath. After an early exchange of foul shots, Bath gradually applied the pressure in a close game and ran out an eventual winner. Hoar for West Devon B then gave an excellent display of potting skills to romp home an easy winner against Con's Jago (junior).
Toland similarly romped home over Angie Ward, who held her own early on, but a series of foul shots contributed to her downfall.
Con C's Hoare opened the last frame against Rich (junior) and kept the lead until all the reds had been potted when briefly Rich took the lead only for Hoare to pot the last three balls to secure the frame. It was a well deserved 4-1 win for West Devon B.
