THE game between West Devon and Conservative Z in the Tavistock Snooker League was a distinctly messy affair. Neither player, Hodge for the West Devon C, or Jankowski for Con Z, appeared able to get into their stride.
It was neck and neck for the duration before Hodge finally fell to the Scotsman in a black ball game.
The early stages of the second frame were not much better, with Hall eventually taking charge against West Devon's Grigg to take the frame. Fitzsimmons for the Con Z's overwhelmed his old adversary Williams to make it 3-0. Symonds drew the short straw against West Devon C's Pinkney (with breaks of 28 and 20), who in an unerring display of potting and ball control, racked up a delightful 93.
Phil Mansfield acquitted himself well for his first team outing, taking the frame from a struggling Dave Elliot racking up a creditable 68 points, giving the Con Z's a 4-1 victory and their best win of the season so far.
Conservative C rooted themselves even more firmly to the base of the league as they went down 41 to second from bottom West Devon D. Decieco for WD had the slightly the better of Con C's Hoare in a low scoring game, followed by Murton who had a convincing run out against Con C's Angie Ward.
The high point for the Con C's was a well grafted win for Jago over West Devon's skipper Hooper. Normal service shortly resumed for the West Devon as Shoulders took out Wilkinson, and Shrimpton showed flashes of what he can achieve with a good win over the dangerous Neale.
