Chagford v Yelverton
IN this closely fought West Devon Derby, the difference was the outstanding opening spell by Chagford skipper Del Lammonby, whose nine over spell accounted for the first four Yelverton wickets, to leave them at 27 for four.
However with Lammonby and Steve Sizmur completing their allotted 9 overs each, Yelverton started their recovery with a stand of 52 beween Viv Kothari (29)and Richard West, and then a further stand of 86 with West and Geoff Brain. West went on to make 51, Brain 41 and Matt Tamwett 29 to ensure that Yelverton reached 206 as they were all out in the 44th over. Lammonby 4-13 and Luke Mortimore 3-36 were the main wicke takers.
Chagford started badly with Chris Filor dismissed for a duck in James Harrison's first over. Father and son Denzil and Paul Penberthy put together a partnership of 103 for the second wicket, before being dismissed in rapid sucession — Denzil 39 and Paul, who played some flashing cover drives, 52, with Chagford at 103 for 3, Lammonby 15, Matt Bowes 22. It was Divan Marais with a hard hit not out 64 that enabled Chagford to reach their target for the loss of five wickets in the 41st over.
Geoff Brain capped a good all round performance with two for 39.
Final result, Chagford 20 points, Yelverton 7 points.
