Tavistock residents will soon have access to a new local podiatry service, Tavistock Podiatry Foot and Gait Clinic, which will open its doors on the 19th of October at 35 Brook Street.

Led by Lindsay Huggins, the practice will assess and treat a range of lower-limb conditions, from general foot care and nail surgery to biomechanical problems such as plantar fasciitis.

Lindsay was born in Tavistock and is delighted to be opening a clinic in her home town, on the same street that her Great-Grandmother once owned a china shop. After working in the NHS as a specialist podiatrist for nearly 10 years, Lindsay is now keen to provide treatment for the local community and she assures that your feet will be in safe hands.

Outside of work, Lindsay enjoys walking on Dartmoor with her two dogs. She understands how important healthy, pain-free feet are for making the most of the moor and the surrounding countryside.

“Tavistock and Dartmoor are very special places to me,” she said. “I am passionate about helping local people stay mobile, whether that means walking on the moor, working, taking part in sport or simply enjoying everyday life without foot pain.”

“Many people put up with painful feet for far too long. Our aim is to understand the cause of each problem and provide practical, individual treatment plans to help people stay mobile and continue enjoying the activities they love.”

Why see a Podiatrist?

Foot and lower-limb pain can have several possible causes, and similar symptoms may require very different treatments. Podiatrists can assess the skin, nails, joints, muscles, tendons and gait to help identify the source of a problem. They can also recognise when further medical assessment or imaging may be required.

Early advice and treatment may help prevent minor problems from becoming more serious. This is especially important for people with diabetes, reduced circulation or reduced sensation, who may not recognise an injury and may be at greater risk of foot ulcers.

Also practising at Tavistock Podiatry, Bowen Practitioner, Nikki Sharpe will be assessing and treating chronic or acute pain, injury and stress, facilitating the body to rebalance, repair and reset.

Tavistock Podiatry will be having an Open Day on Saturday 17th of October from 10am to 3pm. Local residents are welcome to come along and meet the team and make enquiries.
