SEVEN 'Zest' athletes travelled to a wet and windy Yate aquathlon on Sunday, near Bristol. An aquathlon consists of a swim immediately followed by a run having put trainers on as quickly as possible after the swim. The first age group to compete was Tristar one (age 9-10). The boys went first with Jordan Channon first out of the pool, having swum 150 metres in 2mins.24 seconds closely followed by team-mate Matthew Green in 2.26. Jordan extended his lead on the 1,500 metre run to finish in first place ahead of Matt in second place, who looked extremely strong in the run. The girls' race then got underway with Emily Ackford representing Zest. Emily came out of the pool in third place and on the run overtook one girl to finish in second place just behind the leader. Tristar two (age 11-12) then saw Beth Merriott take part among a strong field of girls. Beth had an excellent 250-metre swim and continued her good form in the 2,000 metre run to finish in 19th place. Zest had three boys in the Tristar three (age 13-14 year old) group. Tom Green, Rhys Merriott and Will Carter were racing against each other in this event. They swam 400 metres with Will having an impressive swim, being fifth out of the pool in 5.54 mins, Tom in seventh place in 6.28 and Rhys in eleventh in 7.05. During the 3,000 metre run Will overtook two boys to finish in third place, Tom gained one position to finish seventh and Rhys managed to hold onto 11th place.
