A YOUNG group from Okehampton was this week presented with a county-wide award at a ceremony in Bideford.
Okehampton Teens to Twenties group was awarded the High Sheriff?s Shield by Devon and Cornwall Constabulary?s chief constable Maria Wallis at the Devon Crimebeat Awards on Tuesday evening. Also taking part in the presentation were deputy Lord Lieutenants of Devon Sir John Evans and Philip Tuckett.
The group has already been awarded a cheque for £410 for their initiative in the Crimebeat scheme, which was sponsored by HSBC bank and Macdonalds.
Okehampton Teens to Twenties formed a group called Snapit, to show through the lens of a camera what it is like to be a teenager in Okehampton.
The money has been used to fund photographic film and developing costs, plus photography lessons and advertising costs for an exhibition of the group?s work.
Teens to Twenties was one of four winners in the Crimebeat Awards.
Crimebeat co-ordinator PC Simon Dell said: ?The Crimebeat awards demonstrate the commitment and enthusiasm of the young people of Devon.
?They are to be commended for their efforts and all they have achieved for crime prevention.?
