THe 'Stepping On' project — an adult and community learning initiative from Okehampton College — is offering people from local rural communities the opportunity to try new learning and leisure activities for free.
The college is offering taster courses of three to four weeks in any subject and is eager to hear from people who have ideas about what could be offered. Courses would be arranged in the community locality — in village halls, local schools or wherever suits the activity and people.
Taster courses in basic computing, accessing the internet, first aid, Scottish country dancing, stretch and relax, pottery and basic literacy and numeracy are currently running successfully for people from some local rural areas and the college is committed to extending these sorts of activities to a wider area.
Stepping-On co-ordinator Christine Munkenbeck said she was particularly interested in working with people in the Lewdown, Hatherleigh, North Tawton and Chagford areas but she would welcome enquiries from other villages that surrounded these places.
'If anyone would like to try something new or would like someone from the college to talk to a group about what can be offered, please contact me in 01837 53800.'
