Okehampton U12s 7 Tavistock U12s 0 SOME early season tackling (or lack of) allowed good runs from the Tavistock players to pressure the Okehampton line. But they were unable to convert the pressure into points as the pack showed excellent goal line defending and Sam Ewen found good defensive kicks with both left and right foot. Okehampton started well in the second half with Tom Fogarty?s intelligent kicking ensuring most of the play was in the Tavistock half. The Okehampton pack started to dominate, winning a number of scrums and it was only a matter of time before Okehampton opened the scoring with Matt Johns showing his usual determination to cross the line from close range, converting the try himself. Okehampton had a number of other try scoring oportunities but knock-ons near the line ensured no further points were added. This week U12s away to Crediton. Okehampton responded and managed to cross the line several times only to have the try disallowed for minor infringements however Luke managed to cross the line successfully twice. TAVISTOCK Under 10s took a strong squad to Okehampton RFC to meet last season?s festival winners. From the start Tavistock were under pressure. Tavistock tackled well, rucked well and kept their focus, but eventually cracks did appear and half time saw them 15-0 down. Into the second half, Okehampton upped the pace and Tavistock had to be totally committed or face a crushing defeat. Tavistock?s spirit was shown near the final whistle when Okehampton were camped on Tavistock?s try line and wave after wave of attacks were pushed back. With a further two tries conceded by Tavistock in the second half, Okehampton were the worthy winners, but Tavistock?s commitment and fierce defence will stand them in good stead.
