BUILDING on its continued growth and success, Stannary Brass Band is pleased to announce the formation of a brand new section.

The Stannary Brass Band Youth Section was officially launched recently at West Devon Borough Council offices, Kilworthy Hill, Tavistock

More than 20 young players up to the age of 19 came along for the Youth Section's first meeting.

Peter Jones, the band's musical director, says: 'Stannary Brass Band is continuing to grow and I feel that it is important to retain the interest of younger players and it was with this in mind that the Youth Section was launched.'

He said they had players from Stannary Brass and other bands as well as youngsters who just wish to play with others of the same age group.

'The lifeblood of any organisation must be the direct encouragement and welcoming of young players. Any young players out there are welcome to join us for a few hours on Sunday afternoons between 3.30 and 5.30 at West Devon offices. We make no charge — we would just like to make players welcome,' says Peter.

He also wished to stress that if youngsters already belong to other groups or bands, Stannary would like to emphasise that any involvement in the Youth Section will not take precedence over any activities or commitments with their own group or band. 'We are here simply to encourage youngsters to play with others of their own age,' he says.

If you are interested and under 20 years of age either just turn up or contact Peter on (01822) 670074 or Neil on (01579) 351676.

And to give everyone both young and older an opportunity to see how the band works or to try an instrument, an open day has been arranged on Saturday June 30 in the Parish Rooms in Tavistock.

Stephen Gray, band spokesman said: 'No pun intended but we really want to blow our own trumpet and show people the success of the band — everyone is welcome to come along.'
