YOUNG ideas on how to improve Okehampton gave town councillors some food for thought recently.
The ideas came from five pupils of Okehampton Primary School who went along to a recent town council meeting with their headteacher, Brian Cunningham, and the Rev Stephen Cook.
The Year 6 pupils, who represent the school council, talked about The Leaves of Life, an exercise where they explained what makes the community special to them and how they would like the town to be improved.
Mr Cunningham said: 'Okehampton mayor Kay Bickley said she was pleased the children brought up the issue of drinking in the town as the councillors were going to discuss that later on in the meeting.
'She asked them what they thought of an alcohol-free zone in Okehampton and the children all agreed they liked the idea.
'She also welcomed the children's ideas about the park and asked them not to stop with their ideas on how to improve the town.'
Mr Cook added: 'I have been very impressed by the children and I think this is the first time the school council has met the town council — so I want to say well done to the children.'
