THE Calstock Rowing Club's U14s squad are winning the Cornish championships and enjoyed another first at the weekend.
This weekend they rowed at Pol Point near Truro the weather wasn't great but it didn't rain too much and it proved another race topping day for the club.
Under 14 fours got yet another first which sees them running away with the championship this year. Unfortunately the umpire boat broke down in the U14s' Cornish randan which meant the race wasn't run for championship points however Calstock romped home well clear in first place.
The U18s girls' crew registered another first place this season and are currently lying second in the championship. In the U16s girls' pair of paddles, Rosie Bradley finished in first place, beating a few of the boys that were in the same race — which has earned her second place in the championships.
In the ladies' pair of paddles Leigh-Anne Alford capped a wonderful year with a second place chasing the winner from Polperro within a length — a superb result considering at the quality of the field Leigh-Anne was rowing against.
Joy Treliving, a spokesperson for Calstock Rowing Club, said: 'With Calstock Regatta soon to be held on August 15 and 16 Calstock Rowing Club is enjoying brimming membership and a huge lot of fun with high expectations of achieving some well earned trophies by the end of the season.'
