President?s XI v

Walkham Valley Cricket Club

MIKE Dobson, president of the Walkham Valley Cricket Club, brought in a good side of young and older cricketers to challenge WVCC to their end of season game.

WVCC batted first in a keen but friendly match, played with the ?25 runs and walk? arrangement. A good scoring rate was soon achieved with Berry and Ralph hitting some excellent shots off fairly accurate bowling. Ralph was caught at square leg for 18, with Long following soon after, caught behind trying a hook shot off a difficult ball. With more pace in the bowling, Kay and Vincent built up a good 50 partnership including six fours and three sixes.

But with three father and son combinations on both sides it was left to Shutt Jnr to get the honours, bowling and catching Shutt Snr from a low scooping shot.

M Gibbing and Spreadbury as tailenders scored well, to bring Walkham Valley total to 168 for 5.

Dobson?s choice went for the win with outstanding hits from Dobson Jnr, making 30 including three sixes and two fours. With good backing from

Pedlar, 25 and Shutt Jnr, 25, victory was possible.

But two quick wickets saw the President?s challenge slip. With the overs running out it was left to Derek Lavers to end the scoring with a commendable one.

The game ended with the presentation of the trophy to Walkham skipper Sandy Ralph at the Walkhampton Inn.

Man of the match: John Berry.
