BERE Ferrers Yoga Group celebrated 25 years of yoga in the village recently by swapping its usual venue of the church hall for the Devonshire Health and Racquet Club in Plymouth. As well as a fun yoga session of posture sequences to music, participants enjoyed the fitness suite and pools, and relaxing in the Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, followed by a celebration buffet. The yoga class started in the spring of 1982 in the Bere Ferrers Church Hall led by Christine Poole and Betty Read. It replaced a keep fit class run by Jill Osgood. More than 200 people have attended classes at the Bere Ferrers Church Hall over the past 25 years. During the silver celebration, past and present members were thanked for their loyalty and support. Special thanks were given to Steph Steer and Jennifer Heyworth who have run classes when Betty and Christine were not available. Two founder members who have hardly missed a session, Ruth Charlton and Lyn Adair, were presented with an award of a silver OM pendant. As a thank you from the yoga group Betty and Christine were presented with flowers and special glass goblet etched with the dancer and the cobra yoga postures, as well as a cake decorated with a figure sitting in the lotus posture. As well as a Monday morning class, two classes now run on Monday evenings. Anyone interested in joining any of these sessions should contact Christine Poole on 01822 840612.
