U13s Palladium League Cup final

Yelverton Typhoons v Plympton

YELVERTON'S skipper Dan Cooper won the toss at the Langton Park Ground and asked Plympton to bat first.

The Plympton openers Todd Rossouw and Ethan Dalby started in confident fashion with Rossouw hitting two boundaries off Will Johnson's opening over. Henry Lopes bowling from the opposite end, soon found his line and length and gained some early movement off the pitch.

Skipper Cooper took over after two overs from Johnson and bowled a miserly spell, conceding only five runs from his four overs. Rossouw looked to dominate the bowlers and the pair's opening partnership had reached 49, when Dalby mis-hit a pull and was caught by Johnson at mid-wicket off the bowling of Matthew Adams for 12.

The score had moved onto 60 when Plympton lost the key wicket of Rossouw for 39, also caught on the leg side by Johnson at square-leg off the bowling of James Douie.

Adams then picked up the wickets of Kiera O'Keefe for four, well caught by Jay Warner at backward point and Alistair Wass for 0 caught by Dan Rogers at short fine leg.

Plympton's skipper Jack Mullin was then run out for seven following a superb stop by Cameron Dawe at mid-wicket to leave the score on 77-5.

With Emily Adams bowling a tight line and length from the Yelverton end, Will Johnson returned at the Pavilion end and bowled Jamie Lee for 0. This was the last wicket to fall as J Webber and Jake Sykes took the final Plympton total up to 90 for 6 off their 20 overs.

Yelverton were without the services of David Ackford who was attending Devon trials so Ben Pearson and Will Johnson opened the batting for Yelverton.

Both players fell in the opening two overs, Johnson, caught and bowled by Mullin for a duck and Pearson caught at fine leg off a top edged pull for two. New batsmen Henry Lopes and skipper Dan Cooper took the score along to seven before Lopes was brilliantly run-out by a Wass direct hit.

James Douie joined his Cooper in the middle with the score on 7-3 and the pair mixed watchful defence and attack as they sought to get the innings back on track.

Both batsmen punished the loose delivery and the pair took the score past the 50 mark without further loss when on 55 Cooper chipped a delivery from Wass into the on-side and was well caught by Webber for a well played 34.

Douie was joined by Edward Degg in the middle and the pair put on a further 15 runs to edge closer to the Plympton total.

Douie fell for 21, well caught by wicket keeper Dalby off a top edged pull. Next player in, Cameron Dawe, hit a boundary and was then run-out going for a quick single with the score on 84.

Degg and Matthew Adams calmly stoked the required runs for victory without further mishaps, with Degg hitting the winning boundary as the Yelverton Typhoons won by four wickets with two overs to spare on 94-6.

The player of the match was nominated by the umpires and was awarded to Yelverton's Dan Cooper for his tight bowling (4-1-5-0) and captain's innings of 34 to help his side to victory.
