A well-known face in Yelverton has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to the local community.

Jane Griffiths, manager of the Yelverton Co-op, has received a Rotary Citizens Award from Yelverton Rotary in recognition of her many years of support for local organisations and community projects.

Through the Co-op’s community fundraising, Jane has consistently helped groups across the Yelverton area. One particularly valuable contribution came through Jane’s initiative to apply for a Co-op Community Grant, which provided £4,000 towards the purchase of iPads for Yelverton Rotary’s Memory/Friendship Café. The iPads proved invaluable during lockdown, helping elderly members of the community stay in touch with their loved ones.

Presenting the award, Yelverton Rotary president Nigel Tigwell said: “Jane is the epitome of a community hero. Her long-standing support of Yelverton Rotary has been invaluable in helping us serve our local community. When attendees praise our annual Easter Tea Party, it’s usually Jane’s donated jam and clotted cream that are top of the list! The companionship, understanding and support offered at the Friendship Café often starts with Jane’s tea and biscuits.

“Her influence flows through the heart of much that we do, but her impact is felt far beyond Rotary. Many other community groups have benefited from her help over the years. Jane is an inspiration at the heart of the Yelverton community and is thoroughly deserving of our Rotary Citizens Award.”
