THE long suffering residents of streets around one of Callington's main roads are expected to welcome the news that highways improvements are being planned to make the road safer.
For many years, the people living along Tors View Close, Trasdeves Orchards and the western end of Tavistock Road have been suffering with parking problems which have made entering the road very dangerous.
But plans are now underway to install yellow lines along Tavistock Road and Trasdeves Orchards which, it is hoped, will lead to easing of the problems.
The plan has been started by Cornwall councillor for Callington Andrew Long: 'Since the opening of the new Tesco store further up Tavistock Road, the number of vehicles using Tavistock Road has increased dramatically.
'This has meant even more problems for the residents, particularly in Tors View Close, who are finding getting out of their road almost impossible as the parking on Tavistock Road itself means that cars coming down the hill are on the opposite side of the road. It was an accident waiting to happen.'
The plan will be to yellow line both sides of Tavistock Road from the junction with Trasdeves Orchards up to Pengelly and Pengelly Lane. Combined with the new 30mph speed limit, this will hopefully lead to improved conditions for the residents,' said the councillor.
Within the small estate of Trasdeves Orchards, the yellow lines will be used to enable residents to get in and out of their parking bays, something which has become very difficult, given the narrow road and the parking that goes on opposite the houses.
The works will be added to the upcoming town centre improvement works and it is anticipated they will be carried out in early 2011.
