ON a bitterly cold snowy day on a hard course at Okehampton College, attended by five secondary schools, some good individual performances were recorded by Tavistock College students in the Inter-Schools Cross Country.

In the Year 7 girls? event there was an excellent run from Tess Osborne to finish as winner.

The Year 7 girls? team were also placed first as a result of strong runs from Tamsin Bryant (fourth), Sarah Palmer (fifth), Clare Long (ninth), Sam Jarman (17th), Abi Burrage (20th) and Abi Clarke (24th).

The best Year 7 boys? finisher was Ross Leggitt who did well to finish fourth. Michael Fazackerley was the second Tavistock runner home in 15th place.

In the Year 8 races there were pleasing runs from Chris Dawe and Laura Radgick, who both finished seventh in their respective races. Keily Doyle and Euan McCall were Tavistock?s second runners home each in 13th spot.

In the Year 9 event, the boys? team finished second with powerful runs from Tom Campbell (second), Tom Scott (third), Dan Adams, running two years above his age group (seventh) and Jake Cod (ninth).

Michael Rowe, another junior, finished a creditable 25th.

The girls? team also did well to have three finishers in the top ten. Sammy Langdon (fourth), Esme Johnson (seventh) and Charlotte Wonnacott (tenth) claimed those places.

The senior races were individual events and Tavistock College were to do well in both categories.

It is unfortunate the senior races are not totalled into the overall event as there were some outstanding performances.

Tom Pilbeam, in one of his rare appearances, showed what a competent athlete he is by winning the open event.

He was quickly followed home by Adam Holland (second), Adam Tofield (fourth), James Hobbs (eighth), Seb Lee (ninth), Rory Dyer (13th) and Aaron MaCauley (16th).

The senior girls also proved strong competitors with Louise Elsworth (second), Laura Armstrong (third), Jo Solomen (fourth), Zayna Davis (fifth), Kim Byrn (sixth), Zoe Stock (seventh) and Hayley Jones (eighth).
