WREN Music are running an exciting day of traditional and contemporary folk music, entitled 'Folk on the Fiddle', on Saturday June 25.
The day's events all take place at Fairplace Church and feature three of the UK's most prominent folk musicians.
The day kicks off with a workshop from 10am to 1pm, specificially for fiddle players. Suitable for musicians with a basic level of skill onward, the sessions will focus on developing techniques, skills and understanding.
The afternoon workshops from 2pm to 5.30pm are for players of all instruments, not just bowed ones.
Scottish musician Mairi Campbell will be sharing her repertoire of Scottish music, with South West musicians Nick Wyke and Becki Driscoll sharing their knowledge of regional and English music.
The fee for the workshops is £15 for each morning or afternoon, with concessions of £10 for full-time students and people in receipt of income-related benefit.
The day finishes with a concert from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, featuring music from Mairi, Nick and Becki.
Mairi is widely-known for her haunting rendition of Auld Lang Syne in the movie Sex and the City. She has toured Europe and Russia, and has been heavily involved with the Adult Learning Project in Scotland as a fiddle and step-dancing tutor.
Nick and Becki are based in North Devon, and are renowned for blending together their unique styles — Becki for her melodic, emotive violin and Nick for his driving fiddle chords and powerful vocals. They are musical directors of the Folk Orchestra of North Devon and lead education projects for Wren Music.
Tickets are £8 in advance or £10 on the door, £5 concessions.
