SUNDAY night is folk night in Okehampton as popular duo Marilyn Tucker and Paul Wilson and rising star Matt Norman launch a new series of music sessions at the Plymouth Inn Following the success of the Baring-Gould Folk Festival in Okehampton, Devon?s folk arts development charity Wren Music is this weekend launching a new, regular series of folk song and music sessions in the town. The folk sessions will be held on the last Sunday of each month in the Plymouth Inn, from 8pm. Entry is free, and there will be a raffle in aid of local good causes. In their many years of professional experience, Marilyn Tucker and Paul Wilson have performed at a staggering number and variety of venues, from Ewan MacColl?s 70th birthday at London?s Festival Hall, to a small-hall concert for a fishing co-op on the shores of Newfoundland. Multi-instrumentalist and singer Paul Wilson first came to national prominence in the 1970s with the popular folk trio Staverton Bridge ? still fondly remembered by many today. He and singer Marilyn Tucker first collaborated in 1979, and together they formed Wren Music in 1983, which they run to this day. Each year, Wren Music involves more than 24,000 participants in its programme of folk development activities. Matt Norman is gaining a well-deserved reputation as one of the leading lights of the new generation of Devon-based folk artists. He is an innovative and entertaining musician and singer, exploring traditional and contemporary English music as a performer, arranger, composer and songwriter. His imaginative approach to repertoire is complemented by his virtuosity on the mandolin. Over the past couple of years Matt has regularly performed at major folk festivals including Sidmouth. He recently released a CD Eight Days Late and also works as a community musician with Wren.
